Airport should profit off wall art

It’s a sad day for our community and society when a public entity not spending money, temporarily, makes the newspaper headlines. Is it really necessary for the airport to waste more than $40,000, from whatever source, on art for a terminal that may have a limited future? Oh, and it mentions that they “might” put up a display case for school art!

I have three suggestions for them to consider, that would permanently save the money and add a local connection to our terminal.

One, both the Coos Art Museum, among the best in the state, and the historical museum, could display items of interest with local flavor.

Two, I have no doubt the hundreds of South Coast artisans would love to be able to display some of their varied works, even on a rotating basis. Southern Coos Hospital in Bandon currently does this, and the Coos County Fair had many fine and beautiful pieces of art on display recently.

Third, it’s possible that some of that wall space could be rented by local businesses to advertise their services, generating some additional income for the airport board to spend.

To bad the world choose the title of your comment as "Airport should profit off wall art" That is not what I read. It was more like: The airport could support the communities wealth of pictorial history and current craftsmen and artisans by offering wall space, with out charge, which might represent our community instead of the commercial plunder of the current situation. Sorry just could not help myself with that last sentence. I think they missed a positive note here.
