Kathy Rosencrantz, left, and Mary Cahill, both of Coos Bay, pick ripe berries from vines in the yard at Rosencrantz’s home Friday, July 25. The women and other members of the local Philanthropic Education Organization chapters soon will begin amassing blackberries to be used in blackberry syrup, cobbler and approximately 400 pies. The pies and other goods will be featured at the P.E.O. booth at the Blackberry Arts Festival, Aug. 23-24.

Blackberry picker wrote on Jul 30, 2008 1:45 PM:

Suggestion for all those blackberry pickers. Take a gallon milk jug, cut the top portion off to just about the handle level. You then can run a belt thru the handle and voila...you have a blackberry picking container that you don't need to hold while picking. Pick away.
