National Night Out

Tuesday, July 29, 2008 |
Community members will be able to meet the local police force and learn more about crime prevention during the 25th-annual National Night Out.
Hosted by the North Bend and Coos Bay police departments from 5 to 8 p.m., Aug. 5, the drug and crime prevention event will be held at Ferry Road Park in North Bend.
The purpose of the event is to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; to generate support for and participation in local anti-crime efforts; to strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships; and to send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back, a press release said.
During National Night out, residents in neighborhoods throughout North Bend and Coos Bay are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening with neighbors and police. Activities during the free event will include a cook out, live music, a cake walk and youth activities.
Ferry Road Park is located off of Sherman Avenue on Ferry Road near the McCullough Bridge.
For more information, those interested can contact event coordinator Officer Jon A.R. Bohanan or North Bend Police Chief Steve Scibelli at the North Bend Police Department, 756-3161.
