The Marshfield High School Class of 1958 will hold a 50th reunion Friday and Saturday, Aug. 1-2. For more information, call Kay at 267-6174.

Golfing for health
The Bandon “Golf for Health” Classic, a charitable golf tournament, will be held Saturday at Bandon Crossings Golf Course.
Sponsorship opportunities are available, and player registrations are being accepted. Proceeds will expand the capacity of Southern Coos Health Foundation to advance quality local health care for the Bandon area.
Up to 120 players will participate in the scramble event, which will begin with a shotgun start at noon. An awards barbecue will follow the tournament.

NBHS reunion
The North Bend High School Class of 1983 will hold a 25-year class reunion Saturday. There will be a picnic at 11 a.m. at Laverne Park, and classmates will meet at 6 p.m. at the Back Alley-North Bend Lanes, 1225 Virginia Ave. They will be no-host events.

Super speak
Ike Launstein, Reedsport School District superintendent, will be the featured guest speaker at the Douglas County Democrats first Tuesday meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at Bedrock’s Pizzeria, 2165 Winchester Ave. in Reedsport.
Superintendent Launstein will address the recently passed school bond, how they are spending the money and what they have planned. After his presentation, he will take questions from the audience.

Land learning
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management is sponsoring free activities this summer at the New River Area of Critical Environmental Concern south of Bandon.
The next one will be “Footprints Before the Settlers” at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 9. Don Ivy, cultural resource coordinator for the Coquille Indian Tribe, will lead a guided walk to explore the cultural history of the New River area.
“Through the Eyes of the Beholder” will be held at10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 16. New River is home to a variety of species that all have a different point of view on the place. Veterinarian Alicia Findora will compare the advantages and anatomies of wildlife vision.
“Like Sand Through the Hour Glass” is scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 23. Through droughts, floods, big blows, a tsunami and man’s influence, New River has experienced a lot in its brief existence. A BLM geologist will explain the forces at work that shape the coast.
The BLM asks visitors to make a reservation for the events they wish to attend because of limited space. To reserve a space, visitors can call 290-1862 with the name of the event they wish to attend, their name, and the number in their party.
To reach New River, travel south from Bandon on Highway 101 for approximately 8.6 miles. Turn right onto Croft Lake Lane and follow the signs to the New River and Ellen Warring Learning Center. For more information about activities, call the Coos Bay BLM District Office at 756-0100.
Four-wheeling poker
The Jeep and Four-wheel-drive association of Oregon’s first event will be a poker run Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 9-10. The event will begin at 1223 Virginia Ave. and head through Myrtle Point and Powers down to Agness, where the participants will stay at the Agness R.V. Park. That evening will feature a barbecue with steaks, hamburgers, hotdogs and ribs. In the morning, they will travel down to Gold Beach, up through Port Orford and back to North Bend. There, the last card of the poker run will be handed out.
Pre-registration is required.
The nonprofit organization is located at 1223 Virginia Ave., in North Bend.
60th reunion
The North Bend High School class of 1948 will hold a 60th reunion at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Autumn House Restaurant, 3491 Broadway Ave., North Bend.
