Two local girls competed in the National Miss American Miss Oregon pageant in Portland recently.

Ryann Jack of Coquille competed in the junior teen pageant and was awarded second runner up overall; she competed against more than 90 contestants. She also was the winner of the acting competition and the spokes model competition and was first runner up in the photogenic competition. She will compete on a national level in November in Anaheim, Calif.

Ryann is a nhonor-roll sophomore at Coquille High School and is a varsity cheerleader. She also plays the piano and loves acting. She is the heroine in the Sawdust Theatre’s summer production, “Recipe for Disaster or Camilla’s Culinary Quandary.”

Ryann is the daughter of Curtis and Melissa Jack and sister of Griffin Jack.

Billie Naedean Brown, 7, of North Bend was a state finalist in the National American Miss pageant and competed at the Miss Oregon pageant.

She attends Lighthouse School and the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Billie enjoys camping at Coos Bay Speedway and watching her dad race, camping on the dunes, riding all-terrain vehicles and reading.

She is the daughter of Bill and Christe Brown.

The National American Miss program is centered on helping young ladies gain poise, self-confidence and communication skills. Each year, the pageant awards thousands of dollars in scholarships and prizes.
