Deadline nears to file for council

An election for the positions of mayor and four city councilors for the city of Coos Bay will be held in the general election, Nov. 4. The mayor position is a two-year term. Three councilor positions are four-year terms and one councilor position is a two-year term.
The councilor candidate receiving the fourth highest vote count in the election will be given the two-year term.
Interested citizens can file with the elections official in the Finance Department from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m.
The filing deadline is 5 p.m., Aug. 26. It is recommended that candidates filing by petition file before Aug. 12. To qualify, a citizen must be a registered voter and must have resided within the city of Coos Bay for at least one year preceding the election date.
