Notes of a caregiver
Kat Crawford will share her caregiver experiences and autograph “A Cup of Comfort Book of Prayer” at 1 p.m. Friday at Books by the Bay, 1875 Sherman Ave., North Bend.
Her experiences come from caring for her husband, Gary, who was diagnosed with psuedomyxoma peritonei, a rare appendicle cancer.
Kat will share caregiver tips for survival, how to stay sane when the medical bills arrive and write an appeal when the insurance refuses to pay for treatment, a press release said.
Born in North Bend, Kat now resides with Gary in Omaha, Neb. She is published in eight anthologies, numerous magazines and writes for the Plattsmouth Journal.

The next Grandparents ROCK support group meeting will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, at Faith Lutheran Church, 2741 Sherman Ave., North Bend.
Learning about adolescents will be the topic of the meeting with the two-part video “Surviving Your Adolescents” by Dr. Thomas Phelan. The program talks about how to better relate to and get along with teenagers.
Cathy Mathias, M.A. LPC, will be the presenter. She contracts with Coos County Mental Health working with children, families and adults and has a private practice in North Bend.
Pizza will be ordered and participants will share in the cost.

The residents of Ocean Ridge Retirement and Assisted Living will host a hoedown at 5 p.m. Friday at the residence, 1855 Ocean Blvd., Coos Bay.
Fried chicken will be served, and musicians from all around the county will be pickin’ and singin’ and stompin’ their feet, a press release said. Ocean Ridge’s own Jug Band will be helping out on a few old songs.
The cost is $5 per person.

Proceeds provide scholarships for women in the area.

Grosz exhibit
The Elkton Community Education Center will present a photographer’s show by Greg Grosz at the ECEC Art Gallery, 15850 Highway 38 West. The show will open with a reception from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday and be open daily except Monday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., through Aug. 31.
Grosz became fascinated with still photography as a child, which eventually led to his interest in filmmaking.
He retired to Elkton after a career as a professional filmmaker.
As Grosz made films throughout the United States and around the globe, he spent most of his non-directing days shooting photographs.
This show features his photos from all over the world, as well as photos of local life.
ECEC is a nonprofit organization founded to provide educational and artistic opportunities to all ages of participants.

The On Broadway Thespians have taken over the space at the former Area 51 site, across from Sears, to present “King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.” The dark epic drama is an adaptation penned by Bay Area native, Michael Gonzalez, who also directs.
Young King Arthur seeks to unite the divided lands of Britain in hopes of forming Camelot, a country that serves and protects its people with equality at the heart.
Enter a dark ruler with claims of unearthing three mysterious relics which threatens the very foundation of Camelot.
King Arthur opens Friday, Aug. 1, and runs ensuing weekends through Aug. 17.
Curtain times are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday evening shows and 2 p.m. Sunday matinees.
Tickets available at the door and are $10 for adults for Friday and Saturday evenings, and $8 for Sunday matinees.
