HELENA, Mont. — Big Sky Conference football coaches and media that cover the league predict the University of Montana will win the conference football championship this fall.
Eastern Washington was second in both polls, which were released Tuesday at the league’s summer kickoff in Park City, Utah.
Montana has won or shared 10 straight Big Sky Conference titles and has gone 8-0 in league play over the past two seasons. The Grizzlies were 11-0 in the regular season in 2007 before losing in the first round of the FCS playoffs. They return 10 starters.
Eastern Washington returns 15 starters from a team that posted a 9-4 season and advanced to the quarterfinals of the FCS playoffs.
Montana had seven first-place votes in the coaches’ poll, while Eastern Washington and Northern Arizona each received a first-place vote. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.
Northern Arizona was chosen third in the coaches’ poll and fourth in the media poll while Montana State was third in the media poll and fourth in the coaches’ poll.
Weber State and Portland State are fifth and sixth in both polls. |
