Three separate golf tournaments are coming up on the South Coast to raise money for the veterans hospice program.
The second-annual Dodie Blessing Veterans Golf Tourneys will be held on Aug. 3 at Ocean Dunes Golf Links in Florence, Aug. 23 at Coos Country Club and Sept. 7 at Bandon Crossings Golf Course.
Because of rising gas prices, tournament organizer Mel Gitlin recently reduced the cost of the tournament to $75 per player for each of the three events. Gitlin will offer a cash prize for the top teams in the scramble event, with the specific amount being determined by the number of golfers.
In addition, every golfer should walk away with a gift certificate to a local business, Gitlin said.
In the first tournament last summer, Gitlin raised more than $4,000 for the veterans hospice program, with the money helping pay for 26 special programs no longer funded by the federal government.
The entry fee includes green fees and use of a cart. Gitlin hopes the players enjoy a nice round of golf while supporting an important cause.
“I want people to jump in a cart, play golf and have fun,” he said.
All three tournaments will be played in a four-person scramble team format.
The event at Ocean Dunes will begin with a 10 a.m. shotgun start, while the other two each will have 2 p.m. shotgun starts.
