Josephine County repeated as champion of the Southern Oregon Babe Ruth State Tournament on Sunday at Clyde Allen Field, beating the host South Coast All-Stars twice to take the title.
With its 6-3 and 9-5 victories, Josephine County advanced to play in the regional tournament, while South Coast saw its summer season end.
Josephine County pulled away to win the championship game by scoring four runs in the sixth inning.
Jordan Brown had a triple and three RBIs for Josephine County. Both Brown and Joel Shippy scored twice. Shippy also had two hits and two runs.
Tyler Spencer stood out in relief for Josephine County, pitching six innings after coming in to replace Shippy. South Coast had three runs in the first, but only two over the final six innings.
Ryan Johnson had two hits and a run for South Coast.
Josephine County won the earlier game Sunday by scoring three runs in both the second and fifth innings.

South Coast has hosted the state tournament three times in recent years and come up just short of advancing to the regionals all three times.
Notes: The South Coast’s other two all-star teams each reached the semifinals in their respective state tournaments over the weekend. The tournaments for the 14-year-old and 13-year-old prep age groups both started with pool play. Both area teams advanced out of pool play before losing one-run games in the semifinals, finishing third among eight teams. Those tournaments were held in other cities.
