A Central Point man was arrested Monday on a charge of failing to register as a sex offender, following a rollover crash on state Highway 42.

At about 4:43 a.m., emergency workers responded to a single-vehicle accident at milepost 39. A 1985 Toyota van had left the road and hit several trees before rolling and coming to rest on its side.

All three passengers in the vehicle, Perry J. Duggan, 49, of Newport, Cole H. Wyatt, 18, of Paradise, Calif., and Nathan R. Jackson, 33, were taken to Coquille Valley Hospital, where they were treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

During the course of the investigation, officers arrested Jackson on a charge of failing to report a change of address on the sex offender registration. He was taken to the Coos County jail, where he was cited and released.

The driver of the Toyota, William J.P. Shepard, 20, of Central Point, was also taken to Coquille Valley Hospital, where he remained in fair condition this morning, a hospital spokeswoman said. Officers issued Shepard citations on charges of driving with a suspended license, driving uninsured and failure to drive within a lane.
