Charter school is awarded grant
Tuesday, July 22, 2008 | No comments posted.
Resource Link, Coos Bay School District’s charter school, is the recipient of a $30,000 grant from EdVisions, a national school development organization.
The grant is for networking best practice and project-based learning development with Resource Link students, as well as supporting student self-directed project learning throughout the district, a press release said.
James Lewicki, national director with EdVisions, said the school won the award because it meets the needs of independent learners, home school families and students who wish to learn in non-traditional ways.
The award notes the school did a good job on setting up small learning communities and advisories, providing individualized instruction, giving students a voice and choice in learning and utilizing project-based curriculum. The curriculum is aligned with Oregon State Standards and operates under a teacher ownership model.
This grant will allow Resource Link teachers to provide coaching or training to EdVisions’ schools across the country. More information on EdVisions can be found at www.edvisions.coop.
For more information, call Lesli Gieselman, lead teacher, Resource Link Charter School at 267-1499 or leslig@coos-bay.k12.or.us.
