Hiking group to clean up Blossom Gulch Saturday
Friday, July 18, 2008 10:50 AM PDT

The South Coast Striders Hiking Group will be cutting brush and tidying up the Blossom Gulch Nature Trail in Coos Bay on Saturday morning.

Club members want some help.

The clean up is scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon at the trail behind Blossom Gulch Elementary School, 333 S. 10th St.

The group will clear the fallen trees, stabilize the trail, pick up litter, clear brush, sweep the boardwalk, repair the boardwalk railing, repair the gazebo roof, sand and repaint benches, paint the gazebo support post and remove graffiti from signs.

The group needs the following tools and supplies, including: A 6-foot step ladder,  shovels, hand pruners and loppers, garbage bags, 3- 4-inch paint brushes and an angled sash brush, a large drop cloth, brooms, a few stiff bristle scrub brushes or non-scratch scrub sponges and at least one person with chest waders to help clean out the marsh.

Sherwin-Williams and Farr’s True Value Hardware have donated the painting and roofing materials.

To volunteer and to check to see what tools still are needed, call Don Luce at 266-8201 or e-mail to southcoaststriders@gmail.com.
