Myrtlewood moneyThe Coos Historical & Maritime Museum invites families to enjoy free old-fashioned outdoor fun in Simpson Park as part of North Bend’s July Jubilee celebration.
Three-legged races, gunny sack races and an egg toss, as well as activities suitable for smaller children, will be ongoing from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in the park next to the museum building.
At 1 p.m., Pat Choate Pierce will discuss North Bend’s unique myrtlewood money, manufactured and used locally during the Great Depression. Examples of the wooden coins will be exhibited at the museum.
In honor of North Bend’s birthday, museum admission will be free Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.

Mega marketPony Village Mall will hold Jubilee Mega Market, along with a 800 gallon freshwater aquarium, scones, rides by The Family Orb & Moms Mobile Equipment Rodeo, beginning at 10 a.m., Friday.
The Jubilee Street Dance begins at 5 p.m. with barbecue and beer garden by “Savory’s On the Go,” with the Flashbacks performing from 5 to 8:30 p.m.
The celebration continues Saturday with the market, free fishing from the Oregon Fish and Wildlife fish ponds for ages 10 years and under.
Sunday will be a day full of mini market, scones and rides. The Friends of the Coos County Animal Shelter will be at the mall throughout the weekend.
Cruisin’The Mid-Coast Mustang and Ford Club will host its annual Show and Shine Car and Truck Cruise Saturday in conjunction with July Jubilee. The show will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at North Bend Lanes, 1225 Virginia Ave.
Registration for the show begins at 9 a.m. while registration for the cruise will be taken from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The fee is $10 for either the show or cruise, $15 for both. The event is open to vehicles of any make, model or year.
All cars must be registered, insured, licensed and street legal.
Bi-Coastal Media will be doing a live remote from the North Bend Lanes from noon to 6 p.m.
The car cruise, which starts at 6 p.m., has a new route. The line up will begin at the North Bend Lanes and be escorted to the route along Meade to Connecticut, and then from Connecticut to Sherman Avenue/Highway 101 to Virginia Avenue and back to Meade.
The cruise should end at 8 p.m. for awards and free ice cream provided by Umpqua Bank in North Bend.
Dinner will be available from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Back Alley. K-Dock Radio will be on hand for live broadcasts during the cruise.
The band Silent Witness will provide music.

Handbell harmonyThe Carol-Lons will perform at a lunchtime concert Friday from noon to 1 p.m. at the North Bend Public Library, 1800 Sherman Ave.
The Carol-Lons, who play traditional and contemporary music on English handbells, perform at churches and special events under the direction of Janell Conner.

Tossin’ the discThe free, annual July Jubilee random doubles two-day disc golf tournament will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Winsor Park Disc Golf Course in North Bend.
Registration will start at 9 a.m., and the tournament will begin at 10. Prizes will be awarded for the top scores.
The first 100 golfers will receive a commemorative miniature disc, representing this year’s July Jubilee.

Silent soundsThe North Bend Lanes/Back Alley Pub & Grill will help celebrate North Bend’s Birthday Celebration with music by Silent Witness, starting at 8 p.m. Saturday.
Silent Witness is a Roseburg-based band that plays rock cover tunes from the 1970s through today, along with some original songs.
Silent Witness includes Steve Richardson on drums and vocals, Dan Thomas on lead vocals and acoustic and electric guitar, Dusty Weick on lead guitar, Brian Auer on lead guitar and vocals and Jerod Hurtienne on bass and vocals.

Passport prizeAs part of the July Jubilee, visitors can win prizes by filling out the July Jubilee Passport. Prizes include two round trip tickets on Horizon Air; a weekend getaway from Bi-Coastal Media including two Mariner Tickets for a Saturday or Sunday game and an overnight stay and breakfast for two at the Red Lion Motel in Bellevue, Wash.; and a $100 gas card from Northwest Natural Gas.
Participants can pick up a passport at any venue, marked by pink balloons, and receive stamps at each venue visited.
Passports can be brought to the North Bend Community Birthday Party at noon Saturday for one entry per stamp.
