Babe Ruth tournament starts Friday at Clyde Allen Field

The South Coast All-Stars take aim at a berth in the Babe Ruth regional tournament when they host the Southern Oregon State Tournament starting on Friday at Clyde Allen Field.
The double-elimination tournament for players in the 13- to 15-year-old age group, which has had up to eight teams in the past, has just four squads this year. Because of that, it will last just three days, with the championship decided on Sunday afternoon.
South Coast starts the tournament at 5:30 p.m. on Friday against Umpqua Valley. In the second game Friday, Josephine County faces Klamath Falls, starting at 8:30 p.m.
The Friday winners meet at 11 a.m. Saturday for a spot in the championship round. The losers of the two Friday games meet in an elimination game on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Sunday’s first game is scheduled for 10 a.m. If a second game is necessary to determine a champion, it will start at 1 p.m.
Daily admission to the tournament is $8 for adults and $5 for students 7 to 12 years old. Children 6 and under get in free. A tournament pass is $15 for adults or $25 for families.
The Clyde Allen Field concession stand will be open throughout the tournament, and no outside food will be allowed in the stadium.
The winner of the state tournament advances to the regional, scheduled to start on July 27 at Lewiston, Idaho.
This year’s tournament includes no teams from the Medford area, and just one from the Klamath Falls area. In addition, the South Coast has just one team.
Two other South Coast all-star teams are competing in the 14-year-old division, at Klamath Falls, and the 13-year-old age group, at Eagle Point.
The regional tournament for the 14-year-old division is in Twin Falls, Idaho, with the regional for the 13-year-old group at Kelso, Wash.
The South Coast’s 13- to 15-year-old team includes Mike Bennett of Port Orford; Nic Canaday, Ryan Love, Kyle Davis and Armando Rangel of Myrtle Point; Hagen Holmes of Mapleton; Tyler Davidson, Ryan Johnson, Cody Prescott and Kane Rowley of Coos Bay; Kaunner Jackson and Jimmy Mack of Bandon; Tim Raybould of Florence; and Hank Silva of North Bend. The team’s coaches are Dan Raybould of Florence, Jim Mack of Bandon and Quintin Hall of Coos Bay.

The team’s coaches are Dan Rankin of Florence, Tim Young of Bandon and Randy Canaday of Myrtle Point.
