Golf Recap: Rally for a Cure tournament big success

The annual Rally For a Cure benefit golf scramble at Forest Hills Country Club this week raised more than $3,000 for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

The tournament on Tuesday drew 17 teams, totaling 67 players.

Two teams tied for low-gross honors with scores of 67 — Ray Wasson, Marlene Smith, Greg Strowbridge and Peter Stock; and Tom Mills, Britt Gastreich, Alison Myers and Harvey Myers.

Three teams tied for low-net honors. The groups of Stephanie and Bob Thomas, and Darcy and George Cardas; Jim Koenig, Arline Lee, Karen French and Jim Sentman; and Pat Porter, Jim Mix, Mary King and Fred Van Wert; all posted net scores of 38.

Bandon Invitational

Tim Tucker and Jamie Berkowitz teamed to win the inaugural Fourth of July Bandon Invitational last weekend at Bandon Crossings Golf Course.

The two shot a score of 198 for the three-round tournament, which included 18 holes of best ball, 18 holes of scramble and 18 holes played in a modified chapman format.

Their score was five shots better than Alden Peterson and Jason Humphrey to win the Hogan Flight of the tournament.

Sam McCullough and Shane Moorehead had the best net score in the Hogan Flight, a 198.

In the Snead flight, James Taylor and Kip Archambault shot a 209 to take low-gross honors.

Ed Yelton and Dave Dorsey parred the first playoff hole to win low-net honors over Dave Koch and Ike Strain. Both teams had totals of 193.

The first-annual tournament drew 25 two-man teams.

Forest Hills Clinic

Forest Hills Country Club in Reedsport will have a junior golf school Tuesday through Thursday this week.

The camp is open for golfers 17 and younger and will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday.

The cost is $40 for the week and includes food and prizes on the final day.
