Reedsport student Monica Vaughn placed seventh overall in the Oregon Junior Stroke Play championships at the OGA Golf Course in Woodburn this week.
Vaughn had rounds of 78, 80 and 79 to finish with a 21-over-par total of 237.
Avery Sills of Portland won the event with a score of 218, beating Seshia-Lei Telles of Tualatin by three shots.
The tournament is considered the “second major” of Oregon junior golf, following last week’s Oregon Junior Amateur at Bandon Dunes.
Vaughn, 13, won the first flight of the intermediate girls age group in that tournament.
In this week’s tournament, girls from all the age groups competed together.
Only the top nine girls in the Oregon Junior Stroke Play made the cut for the final round. Vaughn was the youngest among those nine players. |
