Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., announced Tuesday he plans to place a hold on the nomination of Husein Cumber to the railroad-regulating U.S. Surface Transportation Board.

Wyden questioned Cumber’s experience, noting he is a former fundraiser for both President George W. Bush and Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

The White House announced President Bush’s intention to nominate Cumber on May 20. Cumber is a Deputy Chief of Staff at the Department of Transportation, a position Wyden noted he has only served in for a year.

“The law says that members of the STB should possess professional standing and demonstrated knowledge in the fields of transportation or transportation regulation,” Wyden said in opposition to Cumber’s nomination. “I’m very concerned that Mr. Cumber doesn’t possess any of these qualities.”

Cumber would fill the seat of another Bush appointee, Commissioner W. Douglas Buttrey, whose term expires at the end of this year. Cumber, if confirmed by the Senate, would serve a five-year term on the STB, starting Jan. 1.
