The Oregon Dungeness Crab Commission, with the assistance of the U.S. Coast Guard, Oregon State University Sea Grant and Englund Marine, is sponsoring a three-day marine safety and survival training course for commercial fishermen July 22-24 in Charleston.

The class will be conducted by certified trainers. CPR/First Aid will be offered on day three if there is enough interest.

Lunch will be provided and all participants are eligible for valuable door prizes.

The class is open to the first 24 crabbers who contact the ODCC office by Thursday.

Pre-registration is required so the commission can ensure there is enough materials.

The “in-water” portion of the training will take place at the Mingus Park pool in Coos Bay.  

This class is physically demanding and includes timed immersion suit drills, entering a life raft from the water, starting pumps, putting out fires and more.

Upon completion, participants will receive certificates.

The class will be held from 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 22-24 at the Port of Coos Bay’s R.V. Park recreation room, 63402 Kingfisher Lane, Charleston.
