GB on tap to receive federal funds for port

The Port of Gold Beach is in line to receive $200,000 from the federal government to begin rebuilding its commercial fishing dock. The dock provides the foundation for water-dependent and water-related commercial and retail activities at the port.

The money is part of a package of $143 million funding for transportation, housing and urban development projects in Oregon, according to a press release from Oregon’s congressional delegation.

Republican Sens. Gordon Smith and Democrat Ron Wyden announced that a transportation, housing and urban development appropriations bill headed for the Senate floor contains the money for mass transit needs in the Portland area as well as projects elsewhere in the state.

It’s not a done deal yet. In addition to Senate approval, the bill also must pass the House and be signed by the president.
