North Bend Police officers arrested a 23-year-old man on Monday in connection with the sexual assault of a 6-year-old girl.

According to a North Bend Police Department press release, at approximately 4:20 p.m., officers arrested Richard G. Talbert of North Bend on charges of first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, first-degree sexual abuse. A police department dispatcher said police took Talbert into custody at the North Bend Police Department following an interview with Detective Milo Arnesen.

The arrest stems from a July 9 incident, in which a woman in the 2000 block of Everett Street reported that her stepdaughter had been inappropriately touched by a man who was baby-sitting her.

Talbert, who has no previous criminal history according to a state courts spokeswoman, was taken to the Coos County jail, where he remained today on $1.75 million bail.

My prayers go out for this baby girl and her family. I have been through this a few years ago with my daughter. She is older than yours but the innocence that is taken is the same. Your world has been turned upside down. Please remember to be strong for your baby but to remember to take care of yourselves also. Also do not listen to any of the BS people have to say about what you could of done or that he deserves a trail. The fact is if this was there family they would look at it different. The person that did this will get his day in court but there is nothing you could of done to change this. If he was going to do it he would have found away. The people that say any different should just count there blessings that they have never had to go through this with there loved ones because with the society we live in it could happen to them. Again I am so sorry for your family!!!

TO "TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN"
You are a sick puppy and should be in jail just like this other creep. EXCUSES, EXCUSES, EXCUSES May why don't you people get in touch with reality. This guy needs to be taken off the street and locked up for a long long time.

To whom it may concern wrote on Jul 22, 2008 1:46 PM:

Now there is a world of things that can cause someone to do something like this. Not all "Offenders" do it for the enjoyment of it, its a compulsion they can't help. Often because they themselves were abused. So your telling me he should die for something he might not have had full conscience control over. It doesn't make them a "monster" just someone that needs help. For someone to say that they need to be put to death is quite ignorant of a statement if you ask me. Especially when someone doesn't know all the facts.

To Mr. Stitt,
I am the grandma of this child she loves Uesus and enjoys Sunday school.

If you read this article again but this time read what is written you might understand what it said. It does not convict him it simply states he was arrested for this crime. When you make a comment you should make sure you have read the article correctly.

Mr. Stitt, before you start defending a monster perhaps you should know the details of the case. Untill then keep your thoughts to yourself.

To those of you who have sent prayers for our daughter they are very much appreciated. To those of you who have given your opinions they are not. Our lives and the life of our daughter is not and should not be a matter of public opinion! You do not know the details and you do not know what our family has been through let alone what our daughter has had to survive. So please continue to pray for us, but keep your opinions to yourselves.

Mr. Stitt, in my personal opinion, anyone who can defend someone that does this type of stuff to children is no better than the offender.

Sounds like this person has absolutely no feelings for a child of any kind. Honestly to me, it sounds like you dont have any feelings for what happens to a child that they have no control over. Next time, keep your comments to yourself.

I wonder about the integrity of a newspaper that finds it necessary to print the address of a 6 year old victim. I am outraged that they would further victimize her and her family with their irresponsiblity. On behalf of the family, I thank you all for your prayers and well wishes. Mr. Stitt, watch the paper, you'll stand corrected!

This makes me sick!!! I believe that this is worse than murder this baby will never have a normal life again! Hopefully she gets the counseling she needs. When you are a victim of any sexual abuse you have some kind of mental problem for the rest of your life.one of the biggies is anxiety and panic disorder. So why are we as americans letting these sick people back on the streets to take the innocents away from our children? This is were the death penalty should come into affect.Baby Girl we are praying for you!!!

Coos Bay Resident wrote on Jul 15, 2008 6:33 PM:

What in the HELL is wrong with you Mr. Talbert. You should be sitting there at the Coquille Hilton WITHOUT ANY BAIL. You worthless lowlife!!! I hope they put you away for a very long time. You should be locked up for the rest of your LIFE. I'm sure BUBBA will enjoy your company. My prayers also go out to the family of the little girl.
