Marshfield High School will host a girls basketball camp July 21-23 featuring the coaches and players from Southern Oregon University.
The camp is open for girls from all South Coast communities and includes two sessions each day.
Players in fifth through eighth grade will meet from 9 a.m. to noon each day. High school players will meet from 1 to 4 p.m. each day.
The cost for the camp is $50. Players can register and pay on the opening day of the camp.
During the week, players will learn the drills and development skills used by the Southern Oregon University women’s team. The instructions and drills, which start with simple ball-handling skills and advance to complicated offensive moves, can be used at any level.
The skills will be taught through drills and games and will include ball handling, passing, shooting, fast break skills, footwork and shooting and moves for post players and guards.
Southern Oregon head coach Lynn Kennedy will direct the camp. Last year, the Raiders won the Cascade Conference and advanced to the NAIA national tournament. The team’s final record was 29-5.
Among the players helping instruct at the camp is Marshfield graduate Heather Porter.
For more information, those interested can call Kennedy at (541) 552-6044 or Marshfield coach Debbie Dunbar at (541) 404-0741.
