The Bay Area will have two registration days next week for the new tackle football league for players in fifth and sixth grades.
The SouthCoast YouthFootball League is planning a five-game schedule this fall with teams in North Bend, Coos Bay and Coquille. The league will run from Aug. 23, when practices start, to Oct. 11, and could be followed by a playoff. Games will be played on Saturdays.
Students do not play tackle football in school until seventh grade.
Students in the Bay Area can sign up from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Marshfield High School’s Pete Susick Stadium or 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at North Bend High School’s stadium.
The $100 registration fee includes use of pads. Players will be measured for equipment during the registration nights.
The tryouts and a draft will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Aug. 23 at Marshfield High School.
North Bend and Coos Bay each expect to have two or more teams.
Parents interested in coaching the teams also should come to the registration sessions and let officials know they are interested.
Coquille organizers will hold a meeting on Tuesday to select a registration night. The meeting will be at 6 p.m. at South Coast Physical Therapy in Coquille and is open to parents interested in helping out.
For more information, those interested in the Bay Area can call Justin Ainsworth at 266-8597 or Quintin Hall at 297-0142.
