Towns prep for Fourth activities

Coos Bay

Coos Bay will host a family fun day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Mingus Park. The day will include a variety of activities such as fishing, children’s entertainment, therapy dogs, ponies, free swimming at Mingus Park Pool and face painting.

The Mayor’s Firecracker Run, sponsored by the South Coast Running Club, will begin at 10 a.m.

The city of Coos Bay fireworks display over town will be held at 10 p.m. The fire department will launch fireworks from Eastside. They can be seen from the boardwalk and throughout downtown.

Coquille

The City of Coquille will have a day of activities at Sturdivant Park today. Activities include a Jump 4 Fun for children up to age 12. Life Saver Creative Arts Ministry, featuring puppets, will perform at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The Old Time Fiddler’s and Gold Coast Music Makers will perform from noon to 1 p.m. and 2 to 3 p.m.

Powers

White Cedar Days is here again. The annual festival is scheduled for today through Sunday in Powers. Festivities will kick off today with a kids’ parade at 11 a.m. through downtown, followed by a kids’ carnival from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bicentennial Park.

On Saturday, the city of Powers parade will wind through downtown beginning at 11 a.m. The Vintage Haulers Car Show will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 At 9 p.m., Dammmit Jim will take the stage at the Timberline Inn. The fireworks display will begin at dusk.

Lakeside

The 14th-annual Lakeside Independence Day Celebration will be held through Saturday. Fireworks over the lake will begin around 10 p.m. Saturday. The weekend will feature a Street Faire, a classic car show on Saturday, drawings and a bake sale on Park Street.

Port Orford

The Port Orford Jubilee 2008,  “Another Day in Paradise,” will be held today, through Sunday.

Highlights include arts, crafts, photo and quilt displays at the Community Building, throughout the weekend; a dinghy race today at 1 p.m. at Battle Rock Beach and a Jerry Can Race at 2 p.m. on the top of Coast Guard Hill.

Fireworks, along with a raffle and dedications, will begin at dusk today.
