A group of pool players from the South Coast dominated the competition at a recent regional Billiard Congress of America tournament at the Seven Feathers convention center in Canyonville.
The 8-ball event included people from Southern Oregon cities including Grants Pass, Medford and Roseburg, but the members of the Tioga League ended up winning three of the four divisions.
Rik Couch and Randy Baker tied for top honors for players with a handicap of nine or more. Rick Tillett was the champion for those with handicaps 8 and under.
Meanwhile, the Jessie’s team, which consisted of Tillett, Couch, Baker, John Weaver and George Reilly placed first among all teams.
“This is the first time in our local history that our local players swept three of the four divisions,” Reilly said. “For us, or anybody, this is a very special accomplishment.”
In the one division the local players didn’t win — the Scotch doubles division — a team from the Tioga League placed third.
The Tioga BCA League has expanded this year to include eight teams, up from six last season.
The current league standings are as follows: 1. Jessie’s, 457 points; 2. Goonie’s, 446 points; 3. Tiny’s, 380; 4. Silver Dollar, 370; 5. Eagles No. 538, 341; 6. Humboldt, 333; 7. Blue Moon, 318; 8. Four Seasons, 315. |
