Unity of Bandon’s annual Rummage & Bake Sale will take place from 9 a.m. to noon today. There will be no price tags; all items will be offered on a donation basis. The primary focus of the sale is to place items no longer in use back into circulation, a press release said. Items available will include books, household items, tools, clothing, etc.   

Abusive pastors found in all denominations
Last column we attempted to define and list the symptoms of spiritually abusive leadership in response to a reader’s question about demanding, controlling, punitive behavior from a pastor. Pastoral abuse of power can evolve accidentally out of naïve ignorance, with no intent to exploit or dominate. These pastors mean well, but begin to cross the line by overreaching in their responsibility to help their people honor God and his word. A similar dynamic happens in parenting when we subtly shift from teaching and guiding to coerced demands for absolute compliance in even minor decisions. The helicopter parent who continues to hover over their grown children creates unhealthy, disrespectful adult relationships.
