Police reports

Part of a wood chip pile at the Oregon Chip Terminal caught fire Thursday night, burning a 20- by 20-foot area.

According to a North Bend Fire Department press log, at approximately 11:33 p.m., dispatchers received a report of the blaze. A North Bend Police Department dispatcher said a woman who lives on Exchange Street saw the flames.

A fire department spokesman said 15-20 firefighters, three fire engines and one fire boat responded to the scene. They took about 10 minutes to put out the fire, he said.

They had not determined the cause of the blaze as of this morning.

Vehicle accident

A Eugene man was injured in a two-vehicle crash Thursday on Tremont Avenue.

According to a North Bend Police Department press log, at approximately 9:37 p.m., an injury accident was reported at 3480 Tremont Ave., involving a 1995 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, driven by William F. Dougherty, 23, and a 1996 Ford Aspire, driven by Colette Vossler , 19, of Coos Bay.

Dougherty went to Bay Area Hospital where he was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said. No further information was available at press time.

Arrests in the region

North Bend Police officers arrested a Coos Bay resident on an assault charge and warned another Thursday, on The Mill Casino-Hotel property.

According to a North Bend Police Department press log, at approximately 9:39 p.m., Officer Jon Bohanan reported a disturbance on the dock at 3201 Tremont Ave.

Officers then arrested Michael L. Porter, 20, on charges of fourth-degree assault and disorderly conduct. He was cited and released. Karen B. Porter, 39,  was warned on disorderly conduct.

No further information was available at press time.
