Oregon Coast Community Action wants to thank six Bay Area businesses, groups and the Bay Area Sunrise Rotary for its great support for South Coast Food Share — a program of Oregon Coast Community Action, during the Bowl Down Hunger event at North Bend Lanes on May 16.

Businesses that participated in the fundraising event included Abel Insurance, Bay Area Dental Lab, Honda World, The Mill Casino-Hotel, Oregon Coast Community Action, North Bend Lanes, high school coaches and The World. A big thank you goes out to North Bend Lanes, which helped facilitate the entire event and also helped to bring in more bowlers.

Thanks to the wonderful and dedicated Rotary volunteers, Bowl Down Hunger surpassed last year as a fun filled event, full of laughter and lots of karaoke. This event also provided a great chance to see the community come out in support of the regional food bank, South Coast Food Share, which provides and distributes food throughout Coos and Curry counties to  help the most vulnerable in our communities.

Due to the generosity and community spirit of the participating businesses and Bay Area Sunrise Rotary, which brought in 5,000 pounds of food, fewer people will go hungry. Oregon Coast Community Action endeavors to make sure no child, no grandparent or vulnerable individual fights hunger alone.

The recent outpouring of support through donations of food and funding for South Coast Food Share from all South Coast communities have been a huge contribution in helping to defeat hunger in our region. Through the Letter Carriers’ Food Drive, Garbage Appreciation Day, various events at Southwestern Oregon Community College and many other organizations, businesses and cities that have helped to host food drives or fundraising events, South Coast Food Share has been able to distribute several thousands of pounds of food for free to local food pantries and meal sites.

Thank you so much for helping us make a difference in the lives of some of our most vulnerable individuals.

Mary Schoen-Clark, CEO
