Naked Lady will be a no show in Ashland’s parade

ASHLAND (AP) — Jen Moss will apparently spend Independence Day free of her top.

Shortly after telling a reporter she would wear a bikini while participating in Ashland’s Fourth of July parade, Moss had a change of heart Wednesday and decided not to enter the parade, said Sandra Slattery, executive director of the Ashland Chamber of Commerce, which organizes the parade and won’t let Moss take part without a top.

Moss, 33, moved to Ashland from Ojai, Calif., in May to take advantage of the city’s liberal public nudity laws. In Ojai, she was known as the “Pastie Lady;” in Ashland, she quickly became the “Naked Lady.”

But Moss ran into a conflict in her new city when she announced in an online posting that she planned to in-line skate in the parade while wearing only a hemp G-string.

The chamber quickly thwarted the plan, saying it sets the rules for its parade and toplessness is inappropriate for a family-friendly event.

After threatening to sue, Moss appeared to relent this week, telling the Ashland Daily Tidings she had agreed to wear a bikini.

“It’s unfortunate that on the day Americans are celebrating their civil liberties, mine are being taken away,” she said.
