Little Ole Opry, a country-western musical variety show celebrating more than 25 years at Little Theatre on the Bay, will open Saturday.
Little Ole Opry mimics the Grand Ole Opry. With the help of comedy-director Jill Hanson, the show incorporates the best of the TV show “Hee-Haw.” Little Ole Opry has been thrilling Bay Area audiences with its bonanza of bluegrass, classic and contemporary country music since 1982. After returning last year, long-time director Josie Reid is back again.
The show will run every Saturday in July, with the “Best of Opry” show during the first weekend in August. Ron Nance will host the event that includes performances by local favorites such as The Young Bucs, Doris Smith, Pam De Jong, Alyssa Birrer, Clint Guevara, Tara Thompson, Amarillo Dan Keller, Leatha Lewison-Gonzalez, Shirley and Hannah Kintner.
Performers will be backed up live by the Little Ole Opry Band, featuring Dave Ford, Bill Berrian, Dave Andrist, Doug Jones, Dwain Rayburn and Danny Richardson.
Lauri Todd will direct the Little Ole Opry dancers, including Amy Woods and Koral Aakre.
Shows will begin at 8 p.m. Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3. Themes this season are:
* July 5, Country Western Classics, where performers will impersonate their favorite Country and Western star.
* July 12, 1950s and Rock and Roll.
* July 19, Hot New Country.
* July 26, Traditional and Cowboy.
* Aug. 2-3, Best of Opry.
Tickets are on sale now for $12. Seating is reserved. The box office will open an hour before each show.
