Two Coos Bay residents were hurt in a three-vehicle accident Friday on Interstate 5 in Eugene.

According to an Oregon State Police press release, at about 11:15 a.m., a 1996 Chevrolet pickup truck pulling a 25-foot travel trailer was northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 192.

The trailer began to sway and the pickup struck the median barrier. The two vehicles separated and the pickup went over the concrete into the southbound lanes where it landed on the hood of a 2000 Toyota Celica. It then crossed another lane and collided with a 2004 Peterbilt semi-truck.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Wendy Tams, 44, of Coos Bay; and a passenger, Robert Layne, 18, of Coos Bay, were taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center. The driver of the Toyota, Shelby Kytola, 21, of Roseburg, and a passenger, Keely Newman, 18, of Roseburg, were taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center as well.

No information on Tams’ and Layne’s conditions was available.

The Peterbilt driver, Alfonso Perez III, 41, of San Antonio, Texas, declined medical attention, police said.

OSP troopers from the Springfield Area Command office are continuing the investigation.

Crash hurts woman

An accident in North Bend Saturday sent a Coos Bay woman to the hospital.

At 5:20 p.m., emergency personnel responded to the intersection of Newmark and Cedar Streets for an accident involving a 1990 Chevrolet Lumina driven by  Vernon B. Clingings, 36, of North Bend and a 1986 Cadillac driven by Linda Byers, 61, according the North Bend Police log.

Police said no citations were issued. Byers was taken to Bay Area Hospital, treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.
