Local Realtor Andy Nasburg criticizes local resident Steve Jones in his letter (The World, June 22).  When discussing the subject of liquefied natural gas on the North Spit, he commented on Mr. Jones published letter supporting a marine research center in Charleston. Mr. Nasburg demonstrates the cautionary statement that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

If statements of the North Spit LNG developer that were quoted in The World newspaper are correct, then Mr. Nasburg is wrong. He comments that the LNG tanker ships will not require a wider and deeper channel eight miles from the harbor entrance to the turn basin. The Oregon International Port of Coos Bay and the LNG developer will tell you that a deeper and wider channel is required to accommodate longer, wider and deeper draft vessels.

He states that 120 full-time jobs and more than 500 part-time construction jobs would be created by the LNG terminal. The average work force at LNG terminals in the USA is less than 45 people full time.

Mr. Nasburg states that there will be a “cheap source” of energy available to us thanks to the LNG terminal. The LNG developer will not be selling LNG or natural gas to any of us in Coos County.

Mr. Nasburg states that the Charleston commercial fishing fleet will be minimally inconvenienced as the harbor entrance will be closed for only eight minutes total as tankers travel the channel. That is unlikely with a requirement that the channel be closed two miles ahead and one mile behind every slow moving heavily escorted LNG tanker vessel. Because the channel is narrow, the channel will probably be closed near the LNG terminal at all times that a tanker is moored. And, although the city of Coos Bay is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars for a design of the suggested Hollering Place at Empire, will construction be permitted with less than the 750 yard distance from traveling tankers to safety threats?

The World newspaper can assure that people get the truth in this subject. Perhaps it is time that The World newspaper took the lead and soon had an information meeting with knowledgeable people on both sides discussing the merits of and objection to the proposed LNG terminal, LNG tankers and 250 miles of pipelines.

Ignorance is bliss, what a class act you are. You no more represent this area then the ones you complain about.

For all you tree huggers and retired geriatric patients out there complaining about industry moving to the Bay Area. GO AWAY! This area needs family wage jobs to support families! Wow, what a concept. Instead of working at the local grocery store or gas station where you can’t afford to pay attention let alone support a family. Without these jobs who is going to stay and change your bedpans? Go back to where you came from. You are not obviously from around here or you would know we use to be an industry leader.

Every time that Jody McCaffree makes a solid point the promises from Jordan Cove increase. OK COMMUNITY BENEFITS, Jordan Cove can tell us anything and they have. Put it in writing Jordan Cove. You will pay for everything including constant dredging, tugs, public safety, Coast Guard, impact on the fishing fleet and airport, hospitals, taxes from day one, and you will hire and train local people first for temporary and permanent jobs. Fred Kirby had all of this in his web site for the past four years and we didn't listen. Now we are.

I get it state leaders wrote on Jul 9, 2008 10:34 AM:

You are selling us Oregon citizens out to this lng useless stuff (California gets this expensive gas) for tax revue to bail yourself self out due to your pathetic way of running the state into the ground! Show you care & fight this lng useless stuff that only benefits foreign investors, tug boat operators & alike!

Correct Jane, Arizona is nothing but a desert that has little to offer but HOT sun, but has the Grand Canyon & KNOWS how to market successfully unlike this state of Oregon! You can include many other successful states that are growing & have little industrial too like New Mexico, Florida, Hawaii etc. Industrial will NEVER bring prosperty to this state & will only bring in LESS tourist (Tourists want to see beauty & NOT Industrial) & retiring baby boomers (They want to MOVE out of the cities away from Industrial)! State leaders of Oregon wake UP & see that this beautiful state deserves better then trashing it with industrial garbage that will ruin it for future generations to come!

Yep, the roads, rails, airlines and bridges are in tip top shape for all of the tourism flooding into Coos County!!

Community benefits,

500 million from a USELESS (California gets the gas) EXPENSIVE (LNG is TWICE as expensive as existing natural gas) INDUSTRIAL GARBAGE (EYE sore polluter in Tsuami zone) that is POLENTIALLY DANGEROUS to thousands of people living near the bay (LNG ship will have roughly a 2 mile BURN zone if it catches fire & blows UP & LNG storage along with the 230 miles of pipe can produce out of control forest fires caused by leak & started with lightening or any spark)!

vs

Billions of $$$ through tourism (Arizona draws OVER 7 million people a yr) & near term baby boomers retirements & with NO physical impact to this GREAT beautiful state of Oregon!

Say NO to California LNG SCAM!

The Jordan Cove Energy Project will result in a direct investment of more than $500 MILLION into Coos County.
Since the county doesn't have
TIMBER REVENUES, why not?

Do you think that jails, juvenille detention centers, and drug treatment facilities are unnecessary?

You girls need to move into a National Park somewhere.
And yes, my facts come from:

Marvin Smoot is that you? "Common Sense" Are you Jordan Cove, Williams, Pacific Connector guys commenting too? I've heard you've used that CAVEman joke in phone calls to landowners that have the 36-inch, high pressure Pacicif Connector Gas Pipline being forced through their property, when you where trying to convince them to let you do surveys on their land. What do you industry boys know about living in Coos Bay, or having your property taken? Sure, you'll take the profits. Go Jody!

Common Sense wrote on Jul 7, 2008 10:47 AM:

To reality & rest of Bob Braddock people:

Since when is "reality" a name & I noticed NO facts expressed by you for a counter arguement in favor this this LNG SCAM....now that's WEAK....SORRY!

Same ole question that NO pro LNG person can answer:

IF LNG is so safe, so clean, offers so many jobs, why has HUNDREDS of areas rejected it vs LESS then 10 that have accepted it???

Facts: Even Oregon's Dept of Energy came out with a report on May 09, 2008 & said LNG was twice as expensive as existing gas, polluted more & IF Oregon more gas in the future gas from the Rockies would be cheaper & pollute LESS! Concluded gas prices would go UP if LNG was used in Oregon & finally said Oregon does NOT need LNG PERIOD!

REALITY wrote on Jul 5, 2008 8:03 AM:

Since when was "Common Sense" a proper name?
Since the "real" "common sense" has no REAL COMMON SENSE, just paranoid rants.

obvious shills for the promotion of this insanity.

Jane wrote on Jun 30, 2008 3:34 PM:

Yeah the "real" Common Sense speaks the truth on this foreign investor forced on ordinary USA citizens SCAM. It's pretty pathetic when the few pro California LNG people start using other people's name! I guess you are making a BIG impact on this whole California LNG SCAM by stating facts vs making up stories as you go along as these pro California LNG people are doing! Keep up the good work, because the people that care about this area & Oregon itself KNOW who the "real" Common Sense person is!!!

Common Sense wrote on Jun 30, 2008 12:03 PM:

Cute someone else using my name...

Sorry Bob Braddock & his few fellowers:

LNG only is supported by people that are profiting from this SCAM...

Better read Oregon's Dept of Energy May09,2008 record again:
A) LNG twice as expensive as regular domestic gas
B) LNG pollutes more then regular domestic gas
C) LNG would increase gas prices if used in Oregon
D) IF Oregon needs gas in the future, the gas coming from the Rockies would be cheaper & pollute less then importing LNG

No brainer SCAMMERS on LNG not good for Oregon...SORRY

Bruce and CAVE (Citizens Against Virtually Everything),

Um yeah, and building an LNG terminal will make earth 10% more likely to get hit by a giant asteroid. When will your ridicuculous scare tactics end? Many of us are tired of watching our schools crumble because of lack of funding, business close because of lack of industry, and our children move away never to return because of a lack of decent wage jobs. It's time to get Coos Bay back to where it was for the past 150 years, which is an industrial booming port city. This change begines here and now with LNG...

This newspaper has always supported the LNG promoters, despite their most recent disingenuous editorial proclaiming a faux ambiguity ......... but you got in a good letter anyway.
