The 14- and 15-year-old South Coast Babe Ruth Fourmile Logging team went undefeated and captured first place in a double elimination tournament at Yoncolla last weekend —the team’s third tournament title of the season.

Fourmile opened the tournament with an 11-0 drubbing of North Douglas, behind a two-run home run by Hagen Holmes. Kane Rowley and Tyler Davidson added triples for Fourmile, while Tim Raybould tacked on a double.

The win gave Fourmile entry to a winner’s bracket game Saturday evening, where the ball club jumped out to an early 3-0 lead versus South Umpqua on Ryan Johnson’s two-RBI triple. South Umpqua closed the gap to 3-2 in the third inning.

But Fourmile reeled off three runs in the fourth, winning the game by a final score of 6-2.

This put Fourmile in the Sunday championship game against South Umpqua again, after South Umpqua took down North Douglas to reach the final.

Fourmile fell behind by five runs in two disastrous opening innings, but came back in the bottom of the second with singles from Davidson, Dean Reitz and Cody Anderson to close the gap to 5-3. The squad had another four runs in the third inning to take a 7-5 lead behind singles from Davidson and Ryan Johnson, and Fourmile won the championship by a final tally of 8-6.

The event was the final regular tournament. SouthCoast Babe Ruth now will choose all-star teams for the summer state tournaments, including at least one team in all three divisions: 13- to 15-year-old, 14-year-old and 13-year-old prep. Those teams can include players from the Bay Area, Bandon,Coquille, Myrtle Point, Reedsport and Florence.
