A candlelight vigil will be held at 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, to celebrate the life of Leah Freeman, a 15 year-old-girl murdered in Coquille on June 28, 2000. Her murder remains unsolved. Family and friends will gather at the corner of state Highway 42 and Adams Street. There will be music; candles provided; and speeches from family, friends and members of the Coquille Police Department. All are welcome.

All day on Saturday, the owners of Fat Tuesday’s Mardi Gras Grill will donate a portion of the sales proceeds to the Leah Freeman Reward Fund. Community members are rallying to raise a reward to be offered in the case.

Fat Tuesday’s Mardi Gras Grill is located at 331 W. Highway 42, Coquille, and is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Thank you Diligent.Leah certainly did not deserve her fate. Whoever commited this horrible crime apparently has no concsience. The vigil is going to be sad and it is not an easy thing to do, but it is what we can do for now. And continue to seek justice for her. Some day it will happen. I know it in my heart and mind. It will. And for those who know and chose not to talk....in my eyes they are just as guilty. Shame on them for not stepping up and doing the right thing.

What a senseless crime. This little girl hurt no one. The guilty party knows he did it . I am hoping that he and his friend that helped him come forward and that their conscience bothers them for all time. Some one and a lot of people know more than they are telling and what a shame. How could any one live with themselves and help cover up this crime.
