Upcoming Road Races on the South Coast

Jennifer’s Catching Slough Classic — Today, starting at 8:30 a.m. on Catching Slough Road near its intersection with the Coos River Highway. Races include 12-kilometer and 5-kilometer run/walks and a 1-mile kids run. The event is a fundraiser for the Jennifer Turman Memorial Scholarship Fund. The entry fee is $6. For more information, call Pete Dawson at 267-6329 or Claudia Benn at 267-3489.

Mayor’s Firecracker Run — Friday, July 4, starting at 10 a.m. at Mingus Park. Events include a 4-kilometer race that includes the park’s trails system and a 1-mile kids run. For more information, call Rex Miller at 269-1199.

Kentuck Run — Saturday, July 12, starting at 10 a.m. along Kentuck Inlet, 4 miles past the Kentuck Golf Course. Distances include 15 kilometers, 5 kilometers and 1 mile and walkers are encouraged for all three races. The event is a fundraiser for the local Soroptomist CHOHPS program, which teaches and encourages good dental hygiene for local youth and provides dental kits. Participants are encouraged to register before the event and can get more information at www.southcoastrunningclub.com. Race day registration runs from 9 to 9:45 a.m. The entry fee is $20 and includes a T-shirt. For additional information, call Tracy Fawns at 756-4667.

Circle the Bay — Saturday, Aug. 2, starting at 8 a.m. (6:30 a.m. for walkers) at Ferry Road Park in North Bend. The race, the signature event of the South Coast Running Club, is 30-kilometers and can be run individually or as part of a three-person relay team. The entry fee for those who sign up by the early registration deadline (July 16) is $21 for individuals and $48 for relay teams and includes a T-shirt and the barbecue after the race. For more information, call either Jim Clarke at 756-6197 or Susan Ottemiller at 756-2972.
