Jessianne Heley, North Bend; Mason Lieuallen, Powers
Heley was a three-sport standout for North Bend, both as an athlete and team leader. She was the inspirational leader for both North Bend’s cross country and track and field teams, often sending her teammates inspiring notes before big competitions. She also was one of the senior leaders for a young basketball team that reached the state playoffs. She excelled with her abilities as well, as one of the top distance runners on the South Coast in cross country, a tough post player in basketball and one of the true multi-talented athletes of the South Coast in track and field. Heley placed sixth in both the 800 and 1,500 meters at the state meet and was ninth in the discus. She also stood out in several other field events.
Lieuallen was a standout student and athlete for Powers, playing key roles for the Cruisers in both football and basketball and participating in track and field. The student body president and class valedictorian also took sportsmanship to a new level by helping lead a fundraising campaign for a student from another school who was stricken by bone cancer. Lieuallen contacted the other schools in the Skyline League to push for similar successful fundraising efforts. |
