Brianna Ekelund, Reedsport; Garren Hitner, Myrtle Point

Ekelund was a three-sport standout for the Braves while also earning salutatorian honors for her class. She played a key role on the Reedsport volleyball team that reached the Class 3A state tournament, was a key player for the Braves in basketball and also was a standout on Reedsport’s softball team, which finished second in the Sunset Conference and reached the state playoffs. Ekelund was a first-team all-league player in softball and earned second-team all-state honors. In basketball, she was named to the all-defense team in the Sunset Conference.

Hitner was a dominant force for the Bobcats, wrapping up a stellar career. In football, he was one of the top linebackers on the South Coast. In basketball, he was one of the top rebounders, often grabbing 15 or more a game, while helping the Bobcats tie for third in the Sunset Conference. He was recognized by coaches as an honorable-mention all-state selection for Class 3A. In track, he just missed a second state title in the javelin and also placed at state in the high jump. Along the way, he maintained standout grades at Myrtle Point, earning salutatorian honors, with plans to major in forestry science at Oregon State University.
