Talking foodA food conversation and interactive workshop series, “From Ground to Globe — Conversations About Food,” will continue at 6 p.m. Monday at Colette’s: Good Food + Hungry Minds, 3229 Broadway Ave., suites H and I.
The topic of Monday’s presentation is “Coos Head Food Store: Becoming a Co-op” with Bobbie Stewart.
The workshop will examine how food is part of a local and global system through topics such as local foods in local restaurants, community-supported agriculture, and becoming a food co-op. Oregon Coast Community Action is sponsoring this series in recognition of the need to grow a stronger local food system and inspire interactive conversations among the community on food.
The local food series is informal and fun, and features an open question-and-answer format.

TuesdayYoung soundsThe Sounds of the Risen Son Youth Choir from Pasedena, Calif., will perform at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, 123 Ocean Blvd., Coos Bay.
The choir is a group of young musicians who specialize in handbell and vocal music. They have been sponsored by the First United Methodist Church of Pasedena for 38 years.
Though the concert is free, there will be a free-will offering.
Listening repState Rep. Arnie Roblan, D-Coos Bay, will host a town hall meeting from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday in the Myrtlewood Room at the Coos Bay Public Library, 525 W. Anderson Ave. Constituents can attend and discuss legislation ideas for the upcoming 2009 Oregon Legislature session. Roblan will summarize some recent actions by the Legislature.

Fox TrottingThe South Coast Chapter of the USADance Association is sponsoring a one-hour lesson in the Bronze Fox Trot, which will be followed by open dancing, on Saturday, June 28, at the First United Methodist Church hall, 123 Ocean Blvd., Coos Bay. Lesson starts at 7 p.m., with dancing continuing until 9:30 p.m. The dance is open to the public; the price for both the lesson and dance is $3 for members and $6 for nonmembers. Beginners are welcome.
