North Coos dropped to 2-2 in American Legion league play, losing a pair of one-run games to host Roseburg Pepsi on Wednesday.

Roseburg won the opener 1-0 and the nightcap 4-3.

North Coos was swept despite a pair of outstanding pitching performances. Bryce Weidman allowed just six hits in the opener and Elliott Aurdahl gave up just four in the nightcap. Two North Coos errors contributed to all four Roseburg runs in the third inning of that game.

Playing short-handed, North Coos couldn’t come through on offense against Roseburg, managing just 10 hits of its own for the entire afternoon.

North Coos has lost two players for an extended time — Jarred Lincoln, with a broken nose, and Bruce Ohlrich, with a broken hand. In addition, three players from Coquille were not with the team because of a football camp.

The Waterfront won a pair of nonleague games against Crater at Central Point on Monday.

In the opener, North Coos pounded out 20 hits in a 17-12 win. In the nightcap, Geoff Van Pulliam pitched a three-hitter and the Waterfront won 1-0.

Joe Harris and Weidman both crushed home runs in the opener. Harris was 3-for-6 and Weidman and Jesse McClintock each went 4-for-5. McClintock, Jake Stevens and Skyler Walton had doubles.

The second game was scoreless until the fifth inning. That’s when Aurdahl had a single and moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Ryan Campbell. Aurdahl eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Joe Harris.

Harris went 2-for-2 at the plate.

Van Pulliam struck out 10 batters and gave up just two walks to pick up the win on the mound.

North Coos, now 4-3 overall, visits South Eugene for a league doubleheader on Friday and hosts Crater on Sunday, with the first game of that twin bill starting at 2 p.m.

North Coos coach Brad Horning is happy with what he’s seen from the team, except that he’d like to see a more consistent offensive output.

“The pitchers have kept us in ballgames,” he said. “We’re a little slim right now. Hopefully, we can keep healthy.”
