Two 14- and 15-year-old South Coast Babe Ruth teams — sponsored by Fourmile Logging and Hill Trucking — battled for the Glide Babe Ruth Tournament title last weekend in a game that went two extra innings after a 1-1 regulation tie.
Fourmile Logging eventually took the crown by a score of 2-1 when Tyler Davidson singled to score the winning run. This brought Cody Prescott home from third, after he’d walked, stole second and taken third on a sacrifice by Dean Reitz.
The Fourmile Logging squad won its bracket by defeating Sutherlin 9-0 and North Douglas 4-0. Mike Bennett had a triple and Cody Anderson had a double against Sutherlin.
Fourmile scored all four runs in the second inning against North Douglas, beginning with three singles in a row from Anderson, Prescott and Bennett. Sacrifices from Raymond Jones, Ryan Johnson and Kane Rowley, as well as a walk by Gage Green, scored the runs.
Hill Trucking took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the championship game when Hagen Holmes singled and Jake Fletcher had an RBI triple.
Hill Trucking won its bracket by taking down South Umpqua 5-0 and Days Creek 6-0 to set up the South Coast championship showdown.
Fourmile Logging is coached by Steve Prescott and Rick Spring and managed by Gary Grassham. Another team player is Mitch Salcido. |
