Saturday, June 14, 2008 12:18 PM PDT

The 14th-annual Jennifer’s Catching Slough Classic will be held on Saturday, June 21, starting at 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of the Coos River Highway and Catching Slough Road.

The event includes a 12-kilometer run/walk, a 5-kilometer run/walk and a 1-mile kids run. The 12-K walk starts at 8 a.m.

The classic is a benefit for the Jennifer Turman Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded each year to a graduating Coos County high school cross country or track distance runner. This year’s winner will be announced after the races.

Jennifer Turman, a Marshfield High School graduate and member of the South Coast Running Club, died in an automobile accident in 1995. All proceeds from the event are used by the club to help fund the scholarship.

All registration will be held on race day from 7:30 to 8:15 at the start area. The entry fee is $6 ($4 for students under 19).
