South Coast Food Share will kick off hunger awareness week with food drives on Saturday.

In Bandon, North Bend and Coquille, the Coos County Democrats will host a food drive at  Ray’s Food Place, Albertsons and Safeway stores from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In Curry County, Savory Natural Foods in Gold Beach and Brookings Natural Food Co-op will collect canned food and packaged items in two local food drives.

Items most needed by pantries and food banks include canned tuna, soups, stews, chili, canned fruits, vegetables, beans, rice and pasta.  All donations will be kept in local communities.

South Coast Food Share and Oregon Coast Community Action can provide and distribute seven pounds of food for $1. Every $5 donated can help provide up to 35 pounds of food.
