The HMS Bounty sailed into Coos Bay Tuesday night — then motored up to the Coos Bay City Docks this morning. Already, at around 8 a.m., visitors were gathering and taking pictures of the unexpected tall ship arrival.

The Bounty is a big tall ship, bigger than some of the others that have visited Coos Bay.

Captain Robin Walbridge said the Bounty is 180 feet long overall, 32 feet wide and draws 11.5 feet. It has a crew of 19.

For comparison, the Lady Washington is 112 feet long overall and 22 feet wide.

And the Bounty won’t be here long. The plan is for the ship to leave port at about 8 a.m. Thursday.

Walbridge said the ship was here for repairs, take on more fuel and give the crew a break before heading to the Tall Ships Tacoma festival in July.
