Thursday
Running for friendship
The World Harmony Run is a global torch relay that “promotes international friendship and points the way to a real oneness-world.” This year an international team of runners will carry a flaming torch through more than 70 countries. The team will be in Coos Bay on Thursday and will head north to Florence. They will be at the Boys and Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon, 303 D St., at 1 p.m.
Any runners/walkers or those who want to share their dreams for world harmony are encouraged to participate. For more information, call (206) 527-2700 or visit http://www.worldharmonyrun.org.
Outdoor adventures
Hunting, fishing, film making, game cooking and preserving — Scott Haugen and his wife, Tiffany, do it all. And they bring their outdoor adventures to us through books, film and the Internet.
They will be at the Coos Bay Public Library’s Author’s Night, at 7 p.m. Thursday in the library’s Myrtlewood Room.
Their books include “300 Tips to More Salmon and Steelhead,” “Hunting the Alaskan High Arctic,” “Recreational Dugeness Crabbing,” “Cooking Big Game” and “Grill It, Plank It, Smoke It.”

Using Vista
The topic of the next Bay Area Seniors’ Computer Club will be “Vista Operating System,” presented by Steve Bell.
Bell recently purchased a new laptop that has Windows “Vista,” and will share about how Vista is different from XP.
The meeting is scheduled for 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, in Coos Bay, but doors open at 9:30 a.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1290 Thompson Road.
The group meets twice-monthly to provide speakers who talk about topics associated with computing. Meetings are held on the first and third Fridays of the month. Refreshments will be available.
Meetings are open to all, but members must be 50 years old or older.

Off to fight cancer
As a fundraiser for The American Cancer Society and Relay for Life, the original version of “The Wizard of Oz” will play at 7 p.m. Friday at the Egyptian Theatre in downtown Coos Bay.
Tickets cost $5 and are on sale at The World, 350 Commercial St. in Coos Bay. Luminaries are also on available for salefor a suggested donation of $5 to $10. Luminaries are displayed during Relay for Life in honor of those lost to cancer.
Looking for laughs
Comedian Morgan Preston will perform at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Lloyds of Bandon, 219 Second St. SE.
Preston has been in the entertainment business for 20 years.
He began plying his trade in comedy clubs at 17. He has headlined in Las Vegas, Seattle, Los Angeles and music festivals in New York. Additionally, he performs around150 corporate shows a year.
Preston’s highlights include working with George Wallace, Rich Hall of “Saturday Night Live” and Weird Al Yankovic. He can count Bruce Willis as an avid fan since the actor raves about Morgan on his Web site, according to a press release..

Playing the old standard
Popular music by Gershwin, Disney, The Carpenters, several country-western stars, and several old standards from the 1930s and1940s will fill the Sprague Community Theater on Saturday and Sunday as the cast of “Chelsea and Friends” takes the stage in the latest New Artists Productions musical concert event.
The featured vocalist in this musical event is Chelsea Hill of Bandon. Destyni and Tessa Fuller, Hope and Zeta Hay, Robin Hill, Mercedese Mannon, Liza Skeie and Jeneveve Winchell will join her on stage.
Twenty-six songs, from classic to contemporary, will be performed during the concert.
Jordan Chandler choreographed special dance routines to accompany several songs that will feature dancers Hayley Chandler, Dakota Bouher and Cody Waddington. Jordan will perform individually to an instrumental number.
Tickets for “Chelsea and Friends” are available at Bandon True Value Hardware & Radio Shack, Chetco Federal Credit Union and at the door. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens and $5 for students. Show times are 7 p.m. on Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
