Don’t light another debris pile. At least not before getting a burn permit.
The Coos Forest Protective Association announced the beginning of fire season will be on Wednesday. The start of fire season places restrictions on public and industrial forest use on all private, county, state and federal lands, according to a CFPA press release.
Unregulated outside burning no longer will be allowed after 1 a.m. Wednesday for Coos, Curry and western Douglas County, the release said.
Written permits and on-site inspections will be required for debris burning, burn barrels and all other types of outside burning. A fire warden will perform an inspection and write the permit.
Industrial restrictions also have gone into effect. Industrial Fire Precaution Level 1 prohibits smoking while working on or traveling through industrial operations. Fire watches and specified fire tools and suppression equipment are required at all operation sites.
For those living in rural areas, permits are free and can obtained by calling local CFPA offices: Coos Bay, 267-3161; Reedsport, (541) 271-2224; Gold Beach, (541) 247-6241; Brookings, (541) 469-2302; Bandon, 347-3400; and Bridge, 572-2796.
Anyone living within an incorporated city should call local fire departments for burn restrictions and obtaining permits.
As the season progresses more restrictions and closures will go into effect as weather conditions change, the press release said.
