Normally teammates, Hill Trucking first baseman Hank Silva gives a little tap to base runner Levi Midcap during the first game of the Father’s Day Tournament Friday afternoon. The Roseburg Angels were missing a couple of players for the game, so Midcap filled in one of the spots on the visiting team and ended up scoring a run for the visitiing Angels. The two Bay Area teams won their opening games in the Father’s Day tournament on Friday at Clyde Allen Field.
The event continues through Sunday.
Hill Trucking may have officially tallied a victory by default as the visiting Roseburg Angels forfeited due to having only seven players at opening night of the Tournament, but the Hill Trucking squad left no doubt it deserved the win.
Hill Trucking nailed the Angels in the opening inning, going up 13-0 and winning by a final score of 16-6 in four innings.
Roseburg manufactured a comeback of sorts in the second, scoring four runs but falling way short of making a game of it. Hill Trucking gave up one run apiece in the third and fourth, but the home team tallied three runs of its own in the fourth to end the game via 10-run rule.
Hill Trucking’s Josh Perkins had a double to go along with his four RBIs in the blowout. Tim Raybould added three runs scored and an RBI, and pitcher David Midcap had three runs scored of his own. Jake Fletcher and Hagen Holmes both pitched in two runs scored and two RBIs, and Hank Silva had a pair of runs scored.
Roseburg had five errors to Hill Trucking’s one, and Hill Trucking racked up nine hits to the Angels’ two.
South Coast players Gage Green from Fourmile Logging and Levi Midcap from Hill Trucking joined the Angels for the game so they would have a full nine players.
Fourmile Logging wins
Hometown Fourmile Logging smashed Brookings 16-6 in a game that ended prematurely after three innings due to the tournament’s 10-run rule.
Fourmile put the game out of reach with a seven-run second, which set the score at 12-4 after two innings.
“That was the difference right there,” said Fourmile coach Rick Spring.
Fourmile put Brookings away for good with four more runs in the third, ending the ball game with two outs.
The home team racked up 12 hits to Brookings’ three, including five hits from nine batters in the first inning and another five hits from 12 batters in the second.
“The kids hit really well,” said Spring.
Defensively Fourmile had a light night, tallying no outs in the infield and just one in the outfield; the rest came from strikeouts and picked-off runners.
Fourmile’s Kane Rowley went 3-for-3 from the plate on the day, including double and a triple. He was robbed of a chance at completing a cycle in his final at-bat when he was beaned by a pitch. Dean Reitz had a double for Fourmile as well.
Corwin Farquar had a triple for Brookings, and Eli Bruce added a double in the loss.
Bandon Gold, a late substitution for the tournament, beat Central Point 10-0 in Friday’s late game.Details were not available by press time.
