People to People Student Ambassadors Caitlyn Reilley and Katelyn Terra will continue their  car wash,  hot dogs and bake sale fundraiser on Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Umpqua Bank, 1975 Winchester Ave., Reedsport.

Father’s Day is Rose Sunday at Shore Acres State Park. In the garden, Shore Acres gardener George Guthrie and several rose experts will be on hand to answer rose related questions. The Garden House will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with refreshments provided by the Friends of Shore Acres. Hudson Ridge is scheduled to perform bluegrass music in the pavilion from 1 to 3 p.m. The park is open from 8 a.m. to dusk daily.

The Bay Area Artists Association plein air painters also will be in the garden continuing their tradition of painting at the Shore Acres’ garden on Father’s Day. All artists are welcome to participate. The only requirement is to bring a kit. Participants should bring their own lunch, and come around 10 a.m. so they have a little progress before the crowds arrive.  For more information, those interested can call Joan Goodman, 217-8242.

Heceta Head Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast will offer a seven-course Sunday brunch on Father’s Day, June 15. Guests can enjoy a gourmet breakfast, served at noon in the parlors of the Heceta Head Lighthouse north of Florence on U.S. 101. Space is limited and reservations are required. Anyone interested in forming an epilepsy support group is invited to call Mikey Faulds at 756-7279. A time and place for a support group meeting will be determined once there are participants.

An exhibit of mixed media art depicting landscapes, still life and abstract subjects featuring Maggie Karl is on display through Aug. 31 in the South Slough auditorium. Karl is a former Coos Art Museum director and a 15-year Southwestern Oregon Community College art instructor. The interpretive center is located on Seven Devils Road south of Charleston. There are still trains in Coos County, at the Oregon Coast Historical Railroad and Logging Museum, at 766 S. First St. in Coos Bay. The museum features the 104 steam locomotive and a refurbished caboose. It is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays. For more information, those interested can call 756-6684.

Every Monday and Thursday, Master Gardeners are taking calls and visitors from 9 a.m. to noon at the plant clinic at the Coos County-Oregon State University Extension Office, 631 Alder St., in Myrtle Point. People seeking information and help can call 572-5263, ext. 295. Also on Saturdays, they are volunteering from 9 a.m. to noon at Lady Bug Landing Community Garden at the intersection of Eighth Street and Anderson Avenue in Coos Bay.

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program specializes in connecting volunteers who are 55 years of age and older with community organizations that need volunteers. Volunteers 55-plus have a lifetime of experiences to enrich their communities. For more information, those interested can call RSVP in Coos County at 888-7332.

Southern Oregon Coast Housing Opportunities Provider offers homeownership and pre-purchase counseling.  SOC-HOP is a nonprofit organization that utilizes funding from Oregon Housing & Community Services to provide free one-on-one counseling to the residents of Coos County.  This counseling includes: credit review, assessment of loan options available, information on down payment assistance programs and Financial Fitness and Homebuyer Education opportunities.  For more information and to set up an appointment, those interested can call Valorie Rose at 267-6505 or visit SOC-HOP’s Web site at http://www.sochop.org.
