This weekend
Indy art
The work of artist Drew Struzan is on display at Signatures Gallery in Brookings. His works include the latest in the Indiana Jones movie series poster. He also is the official Star Wars artist for Lucasfilm Ltd.
Two Indiana Jones Artists Proofs, the only ones in existence, are on display. Signatures is the only gallery that carries both the personal and commercial art work of Drew Struzan. These will be available for viewing through June.
Signatures Gallery is located at 519 Chetco Ave. Hours are Tuesdays through Saturday, noon to 5:30 p.m. For information, those interested can call (541) 469-1085.
Throwing horseshoes
Competitive horseshoe pitching activities are scheduled every Saturday, including tournaments in Coos Bay, Coquille, Agness, Port Orford and Powers, through the end of October.

Ocean interpreters
Shoreline Education for Awareness’ wildlife interpretive season is under way. Volunteer interpreters are at waysides Saturday and Sunday through the end of June.
Interpretation at Simpson Reef on Cape Arago has begun with the three national volunteers, who have come from several different areas of the country to join the SEA docents in sharing wildlife information with the public. SEA’s official season at Simpson Reef began June 1, and docents will be stationed there until the end of Labor Day weekend, along with the National Volunteers who will remain for four days a week for several weeks.
In Bandon, docents are at Coquille Point from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. sharing their spotting scopes with visitors to show them the wildlife that uses the offshore rocks as breeding grounds.
The most prevalent species is common murres, along with pelagic cormorants, Brandts cormorants, western gulls, pigeon guillemots and harbor seals. Recently, tufted puffins have been seen at Face Rock and in the water north of Table Rock.
Docents receive training from wildlife professionals from public agencies and universities. After training, they can tell visitors what each species uses for food, when the young are born and when they go off on their own, plus many other details of the private lives of the species.
Docents will be wearing bright blue jackets, sweatshirts or T-shirts with the white SEA logo on the back.

Celebrating expansion
Art Connection will celebrate the recent expansion and remodeling of their downtown Coos Bay retail space with a Grand Re-Opening from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 21. This is the second expansion in the 15-year history of the picture framing and art supply shop. Art Connection was founded in 1993 by owners Rondi Potter and Coni Stroud.
Refreshments will be available and door prizes awarded. Art Connection is located at 165 S. 5th St. in downtown Coos Bay.
Handbell music
The Coquille Valley English Handbell Choir will perform at 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, at the North Bend First Baptist Church, 2080 Marion St.
