Eva Germaine-Shimotakahara, of North Bend, is the new 81 President of the Oregon Medical Association Alliance, a physician spouse organization of the Oregon Medical Association.

She was appointed to the position during the organization’s annual meeting this spring. She was joined by her husband, Dr. Steven G. Shimotakahara, M.D. and two of her four children.

Germaine-Shimotakahara joined the OMAA in the fall of 1999 after reading an Alliance newsletter that highlighted the Stop American’s Violence Everywhere campaign started by the American Medical Association Alliance. After attending a meeting to learn more about SAVE program activities in Oregon she started the Southwestern Oregon Medical Society Alliance in this community with three other OMAA members.

Her focus this year as president will be on supporting returning veterans who are experiencing post traumatic stress syndrome and traumatic brain injury and promoting awareness and education to OMA member regarding the health care access issues facing military personnel.

Coos Bay doctor speaks nationally

Dr. Charles G. Hubris of Coos Bay was a featured speaker at the Combined Otolaryngological spring meeting recently, in Orlando, Fla. a press release said.

He is scheduled to speak at the American Academy of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery annual meeting and the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery annual meeting in Chicago in September.

Hubris will present his research on an implant designed to correct airway obstruction from dysfunction of the nasal valve. At the meeting, he also will teach a seminar addressing nasal valve surgery and instruct a surgical cadaver workshop.

Hubris has practiced in the Bay Area since 1991. His practice is located at 2695 N. 17th St. in Coos Bay.
