Country Showdown
The qualifying competition for the Colgate Country Showdown will continue at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Salmon Room at The Mill Casino-Hotel, 3201 Tremont St., North Bend. Doors will open at 6.
Admission for each show is $5; tickets can be purchased in Ko-Kwel Gifts at the casino or at the door. All ages are welcome.
Masonic meeting
The North Bend Masonic Lodge #140 AF and AM will meet from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the center, 2002 Union Ave. The group meets on the second Thursday of the month, and visiting Masons are welcome.

‘Same Time Next Year’
The On Broadway Thespians Inc. will present the romantic comedy “Same Time Next Year.” It will open Friday, with performances through June 29.
Offered as another OBT dinner theater production at Gussies Restaurant, curtain times are 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings and 2 p.m. for Sunday matinees. Additionally, dinner orders will be taken until 5:45 on evening performances and 1:45 lunch matinees.
Directed by Cherish Merrit, the play tells the story of a couple, George and Doris, who, while married to other people, develop a special relationship in which they meet once a year at a country inn for a weekend together. The relationship evolves into a special emotional intimacy over the course of 24 years, with heartwrenching consequences. George is played by Jeff Roberts, with the role of Doris performed by Leatha Lewison-Gonzalez.
“Same Time Next Year” was written by Canadian actor, playwright and TV sitcom writer Bernard Slade, most known for creating the sitcoms “The Flying Nun” and “The Partridge Family,” as well as the Broadway play “Tribute.” A hit in 1975 when it opened on Broadway, “Same Time Next Year” remains fresh and funny despite the intervening years, a press release said.
Gussies is located at 1088 Newmark Avenue, across from the Empire 7-11 in Empire.
Tickets cost $10 for adults evening shows and $8 for matinees. Tickets for children under 12 cost $7 for all showings. Due to adult content, children must be accompanied by an adult or guardian. Meals and drinks are priced separately. Purchase of a meal is not required.

Zonta fashion show
The Pony Village Mall and the Zonta Club of Coos Bay will host a fashion show and benefit for Jane’s House at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, at the Pony Village Mall, 1611 Virginia Ave. in North Bend.
The Zonta Club will be selling yellow balloons filled with coupons, gift certificates and valuable prizes. Balloons will be available for $2 each or three for $5. All proceeds will go to the renovation, decoration and purchase of much needed items for Jane’s House. Visitors also can donate to the organization and purchase a personal belongings basket for Jane’s House residents for $15.
The fashion show will feature summer fashions from JCPenney’s, Macys and Maurices, modeled by the Zonta Club new members committee and guest models.
Circuit court judge and fellow Zontian Paula Bechtold will emcee the event.
Jane’s House is a newly acquired Women’s Safety and Resource home in North Bend. The home was purchased to provide much needed additional support and transition housing to Coos County women, mothers and their children in need.

The Humbug Mountain Weavers and Spinners Guild will have a show at Southern Coos Hospital and Health Center, 900 E. 11th St., Bandon, through August.
It features 23 rugs created between 1999 and 2007 by guild member Wendy Betrand of Gasquet, Calif., as well as works by many other guild members.
Bertrand’s rugs range in size from 2-by-2-foot to 5-by-7-foot. She weaves with a variety of yarns, including handspun Romney, Lincoln, Churro, adult mohair, llama and more. Her colorful, asymmetrical style includes a double-color Taniko twining on the edges rather than a knotted fringe. She uses her rugs on her floors and walls.
